Expansion joints in concrete structures are particularly complex and cumbersome, from the design and planning stage all way to execution in the field. Whenever the transmission of transverse/shear forces in combination with structural waterproofing is required, the task becomes even more daunting.
Design and execution errors can be avoided and a faster building progress ensured through the use of pre-fabricated expansion joint elements. The engineered and pre-fabricated elements integrate transverse force dowels and provide a cage for expansion joint rubber water bars.
How to:
- The engineered Stremaform® formwork elements are customized to precisely match the foundation design. All standardized and bespoke elements – such as floor/slab to-rising wall transitions – are designed and produced in a factory setting and delivered installation ready to the building site. The installer is provided with shop drawings, indicating the exact location of each element, making sure that the engineered solution does not collide with execution on site.
- Assembly times are considerably shortened by the integration of Egcodorn® transverse force dowels. Egcodorn® dowels allow for maximum transverse force transmission, while requiring minimal component thicknesses.
- The only component to be added to the assembly on site is the expansion joint rubber waterbar, which is simply inserted into the provided cage. Thus, the number of splices is reduced and secure placement of the rubber waterbar during concreting operations is ensured.
