Müller drugstore

Budapest, Hungary

Egcobox® in use: Energy-efficient and sustainable construction solution for the new Müller flagship store in Budapest.

After circa three years of construction, Müller opened its new flagship store in the heart of Budapest on the site of the former Fontana House on Váci Street. The 2,841-square-meter market was officially opened by 92-year-old company founder Erwin Franz Müller. With proven construction solutions, we made a significant contribution to the success of the “Budapest Prestige” project, which combines architecture, urban living, and shopping experience.

The new building, designed by Ankner Buchholz Architects, combines traditional elements of Budapest architecture with modern elegance. Particular attention has been paid to the high-quality façade. This consists of finely polished Croatian limestone “Giallo d'Istria” and is structurally enhanced by anodized aluminum profiles and carefully coordinated relief depths. The entire building comprises around 9,650 m² of usable space and, in addition to the spacious sales area on three floors, also includes 40 exclusive apartments and spacious terraces with views over the Danube.

High-quality products from MAX FRANK were used in the construction of the architecturally sophisticated structure:

  • Egcobox®: The proven Egcobox system was used for the thermally separated connection of the pergolas. It ensures effective thermal insulation while also offering high load-bearing capacity. Individually adapted Egcobox solutions also ensured thermal separation and secure load transfer of the façade components in the sophisticated façade design. The façade cladding made of artificial stone was anchored to concrete consoles, which were thermally separated from the interior of the building by the Egcobox structural thermal breaks comprising stone wool insulation. The use of Egcobox was particularly important in the curved section, as it could be prefabricated exactly to the required radius.
  • Egcodübel: Egcodübel dowels were used to create a force-fit connection between concrete components while allowing freedom of movement – an optimal solution for demanding movement joints.
  • Egcoscal: The tested MAX FRANK products Egcoscal and FDPL were used for increased sound insulation in the stairwells. They effectively reduce the transmission of impact sound and ensure noticeable living comfort.

Through the targeted use of these products, MAX FRANK was not only able to meet the architectural requirements, but also contribute to the long-term construction quality and sustainability of this prestigious project.
