Three-track extension of the line 2270, Emmerich – Oberhausen on the German-Dutch border: load activation with Egcovoid® void former
As part of the three-track expansion of the Emmerich – Oberhausen line, impact protection against the adjacent bridge pillars was required for a bridge underpass, both to the existing foundation and to the bridge pillars. A cavity between the existing pillars and the massive impact protection prevents the construction from being stressed in the event of a possible impact.
To horizontally decouple the new foundations, the Egcovoid® settlement plate was used between the upper edge of the existing foundations and the floor slab. The settlement plate was also installed to vertically decouple the existing bridge piers. The settlement plate creates a load-free separating layer. Load releases are necessary, especially when forces are unpredictable, in order to generate targeted load transfer.
After the concrete has hardened, the Egcovoid® void former is watered to create the cavity between the existing concrete and the impact protection. The new concrete structure of the impact protection is completely separated from the old existing structure by Egcovoid®.
