Casa da Música

Porto, Portugal

The Casa da Música is the municipal concert hall in the Portuguese city of Porto. The concert hall was designed with exposed concrete surfaces inside and out.

The "Casa da Musica" in Porto was designed with exposed concrete surfaces inside and out. The building's circular columns were designed with Tubbox® column formers from MAX FRANK.

The contrast of different indoor and outdoor materials (e.g. coloured perforated panels, corrugated glass, gilded surfaces, natural stone slabs) made the precision of the exposed concrete surfaces a key factor.

Particular attention was paid to the production of circular reinforced concrete columns: The brief called for diameters of up to 1.20 m. It was also important to create circular columns with a total length of more than 5.00 m without surface joints. These dimensions were easily achieved with Tubbox® column formers.
