Tamina Canyon Crossing

Valens, Switzerland

The Tamina Bridge is a road bridge in the Tamina valley in the canton of St. Gallen. The Structural Designers received the StructuralAward2018.

The bridge spans the Tamina River at a height of circa. 200 metres and connects the village of Valens with Päfers. With a span of 260 metres, it is the largest arched bridge in Switzerland. After four years of construction, the bridge opened in the Summer of 2017.

Max Frank AG Switzerland supplied cast concrete spacers to the project. Cast concrete spacers are used to guarantee concrete cover for structures and components before and during concreting.

StructuralAwards2018: Oscar for civil engineers
In November, the "StructuralAwards2018" were presented in London by the "Institution of Structural Engineers". The Institution of Structural Engineers (IStructE) is a British association that has been awarding prizes for outstanding project designsince 1968.

The Supreme Award for Structural Engineering Excellence was presented to Leonhardt, Andrä und Partner, the first German engineering office to receive this distinction for the Tamina Valley Bridge in the Swiss canton of St. Gallen.
The judges especially praised the elegant and economical design of the bridge. The Tamina Valley Bridge was also the winner of the Vehicle Bridges category. More information
