Around 600 concrete columns were produced with the reusable Tubbox® Multi circular column formers for the "Mathematikon" in Heidelberg.
The particular requirements lay not only in the large number of columns but also in the number of variants. The columns varied in diameters from between 400 and 600 mm and in heights between 360 and 780 cm. Tubbox® Multi was produced to the customer's exact requirements for all variants and offered an economic advantage over conventional cardboard disposable formwork due mainly to the multiple re-usability of the formwork (between 15 and 20 times).
However, the special circular column formers were also delivered to the building site as flat material which offered additional cost savings on transport and storage.
The requirements for the concrete surface of the columns were between SB2 and the highest quality class for exposed concrete of SB4. The grain-free silky matte surfaces created by Tubbox® Multi meet these requirements and blend perfectly into the surrounding concrete surfaces.
The Mathematikon is located in Berliner Straße, the interface between the district of Neuenheim, close to the city centre, and the "Neuenheimer Feld" university campus.
The complex of large flat-roof buildings is divided into two parts:
