RHS Garden, Wisley

Surrey, United Kingdom

MAX FRANK supplied Pecavoid® ground heave solution to The Royal Horticultural Society's exciting new development.

The Royal Horticultural Society's garden at Wisley is situated in Surrey, south of London. RHS Wisley is one of four gardens run by the Society and is the second most visited paid-entry garden in the United Kingdom.

The commitment to put some extraordinary plans in place included the development of a new Welcome Centre where Pecavoid® ground heave solution was installed. The new centre comprises a new, stylish entrance and courtyard, as well as a range of enhanced facilities, such as a new shop, café, plant centre and membership area. Construction involved a steel-frame building with a flat, fine dry-mix floor screed.

Manufactured from interlocking sections of expanded polystyrene, Pecavoid® is lightweight and easy to install. Weather conditions at the time involved high winds. It is advised that all Pecavoid® joints are taped in such conditions and a temporary polythene sheet is applied over the Pecavoid® to protect it. Pecavoid® units should be positioned on a flat, level surface to avoid cell damage and spreader boards should be used to protect the units where foot traffic is likely.

Pecavoid® and its associated ground heave products can be supplied in a number of grades and depths – designed to provide full foundation protection, in any type of expanding soil situation, during the complete life span of the building. Since its launch in 2011, Pecavoid® has been successfully installed on major projects including; airports, schools and colleges, retail and large-scale residential developments.
