Futuria in Garching is a vibrant residential development where the Egcodorn® shear force dowel system was used for the ceiling slabs.
In Garching near Munich, FUTURIA is taking shape – a forward-looking residential district developed by the BHB Group that brings together modern living, a connection to nature, and sustainability. Inspired by the spirit of innovation at the science and research hub of Garching, the project sets new standards for future-ready urban living.
The development comprises 118 individually designed apartments featuring generous ceiling heights, large windows, and private outdoor spaces that open up views into the surrounding greenery. At its core is a consistently sustainable concept: solar panels, recycled concrete, certified carbon neutral bricks, geothermal energy, heat pumps, and a dedicated photovoltaic system with energy storage ensure maximum energy efficiency. Thanks to advanced digital planning and innovative construction methods, a living environment of the highest quality is being created – a place for conscious, community-oriented living with a future.
Close cooperation between various partners was crucial in making this vision a reality. The engineering firm Muck Ingenieure from Ingolstadt took on the structural design in 3D, consistently relying on the digital BIM method. The demanding and highly stressed inclined cover plates were calculated by Muck Ingenieure using MAX FRANK's Egcodorn design software. The Egcodorn software impresses with its simple, intuitive handling, which allows all MAX FRANK shear pin types to be designed and dimensioned. With the help of the unique 3D programme interface, the dimensioning of the pin types is easy and convenient.
The SUPPARTS® embedded part generator for shear force dowels, developed by Peter Pöppl, also played an important role. SUPPARTS® are plug-in modules for Allplan drawing software that greatly simplify the daily work and workflow of planners and draughtsmen across all manufacturers. By using this generator from the engineering firm Muck, the models could also be supplemented in detail in 3D and output in colour installation plans. SUPPARTS® contributed significantly to ensuring that the transitions between planning, detail processing and execution functioned smoothly and that the interaction between all partners was strengthened.
MAX FRANK supplied the Egcodorn® shear dowel for high loads in the expansion joints for the residential construction project. Egcodorn® transfers maximum forces with minimum component thicknesses and is used primarily for static loads. The use of high-quality materials, the unique corrosion protection system and the building authority approval guarantee maximum safety.
The software solutions and the product also helped to overcome specific challenges in the project: ‘Due to a slope along the outer wall of the cellar, it was difficult to use a bracket for installation, so the MAX FRANK spike solution was chosen for this location,’ explains Fabian Fries from Ingenieurbüro Muck.
This close collaboration resulted in a continuous planning process that ranged from the initial CAD models to installation on the construction site. The digital approach paid off particularly well on the construction site itself: QR codes on the shear force dowel elements made it possible to document and directly check the installation in a transparent manner.
Futuria Garching demonstrates how modern living, digital planning and innovative building products go hand in hand.
