Nye Nerlandsøybrua bridge

Nerlandsøya, Norway

A new reinforced concrete bridge connects the two Norwegian islands of Nerlandsøya and Bergsøya. Stremaform® has simplified underwater concreting work and significantly reduced the need for diving operations.

The bridge will have a total length of 574 metres and a width of 11.5 metres and will be divided into 8 spans, with the main span being 140 metres long. The main part of the bridge will be built as a free-standing structure. The current bridge, built in 1968, will be demolished once the new bridge is completed.

Underwater construction of a bridge pier

During the construction of the bridge pier in Norway, formwork below the water surface was constructed entirely with Stremaform®, while conventional formwork was used above the waterline.

Conventional formwork systems reach their limits when constructed underwater due to the high amount of manual labour required. Stremaform® enables considerable time savings during immersion operations and simplifies underwater construction and concreting work.

Prefabricated Stremaform®

The Stremaform® sections were delivered prefabricated and erected on site. The construction of rounded corners also posed no problems, as this was easily possible using Stremaform®. Glass fibre anchor rods were used to secure the concrete pressure without affecting the concrete cover.
The entire pre-assembled Stremaform® formwork, including the reinforcement, was finally placed on a prefabricated foundation on the seabed, where the concrete was then poured.
