Congratulations V&A and Project Contractors!

The V&A Museum of Design, Dundee, nominated by Carey Group, was Highly Commended at this year’s prestigious awards.

The dramatic building, fitting for the V&A in Scotland, could only have been fulfilled by concrete - creating a stunning statement in concrete, a structure that is truly iconic.

The bold concrete landmark is structured to resemble a section of Scottish cliff and a ship by the bank of the River Tay. The logistics of this construction to create the demanding curves and overhanging walls of varying thickness was like no other project undertaken in the UK. The key challenges included a special concrete mix design, complex building geometry and accuracy in setting out the temporary works.

Kathy Calverley, Managing Director of The Concrete Society, said, “Once again we were astounded by both the quantity and quality of nomination entries we received this year. With such excellent projects submitted the judging panel had a challenging task both selecting a shortlist and to reach the final decision of ‘Outright Winner’ and those ‘Highly Commended’.

The Society would like to thank all the teams for the time and effort to put such outstanding submissions together and also thank the judges who visited the projects all over the UK, ensuring the integrity of the most respected awards in the construction industry.”

Zemdrain® Controlled Permeability Formwork (CPF) Liners, supplied by MAX FRANK, were specified on the impressive V&A project to:

  • Reduce porosity in the concrete surface
  • Increase resistance to the concrete in aggressive environments

The Results: increased life-span of the structure and minimized future maintenance costs through concrete repair solutions.

MAX FRANK would like to congratulate the V&A project and the Contractors for their outstanding work! For further information about this year's awards visit: www.concrete-awards.org.uk

Upcoming project... Zemdrain® and the V&A Museum of Design, Dundee.
