How to: Separation layer for sheet pile retaining walls

Sheet piles are used as permanent or temporary support of excavations. Pecafil® permanent formwork acts as a sacrificial back shutter for the concrete liner wall, the sheet piles are spanned and do not need to be filled with concrete. As a result, concrete volume is significantly reduced, offering considerable cost savings – especially in basement construction using waterproof concrete (Type B).

Pecafil also functions as a separation layer to aid extraction of sheet piles by acting as a slip membrane and reducing contact area with the wall.

Available in a range of grades to suit different pour pressures and pile profiles, Pecafil can be supplied in sheets up to 6m x 2.4m to quickly face the wall and speed up construction.

How to:

  • Pecafil sheets can be prefabricated to required size.
  • Fasten the boards to the substrate using a stud gun or by welding.
  • Mount the reinforcement and formwork. In selecting the spacers, attention should be paid to a high load distribution (e.g. through bar spacers), so that the foil is not punctured.
  • Following concreting the sheet piles can be removed, depending on the construction.
