The Varberg tunnel is a strategically important railway project on the West Coast Line, expanding into double tracks and a tunnel which runs beneath the city of Varberg in Sweden.
The project extends over approximately nine kilometers and involves construction of tracks, bridges and other structures for both passenger and freight trains in a complex and busy environment.
Increased capacity – two tracks instead of one
The expansion of the railway to double tracks creates improved opportunities for work commuting and for business transport. With the expansion, the technical standard increases and contributes to shorter travel times, creating more frequent train traffic and additional stops in Varberg. The new double track through Varberg is planned to open for traffic in 2024, creating an efficient railway system with high accessibility benefits for international, national and regional transport and traveling.
