Strandeiland

Amsterdam, Netherlands

In IJburg (NL), an up-and-coming district of Amsterdam, an exciting new residential area “Strandeiland” is currently being built.

Amsterdam has high ambitions for Strandeiland: the district is to be sustainable and forward-looking. The residential area will have 8,000 flats, 120,000 square metres of commercial and social space. There will also be a 750-metre-long city beach and almost 6 hectares of green space for sports, play and leisure. Strandeiland will thus provide a home for more than 20,000 Amsterdam citizens. The project will be developed gradually over the next 15 years.

Solid basis for sewage pipes

The special feature is that it is being built on sandy ground. This ground area was once part of a water body. Innovative techniques are being used to create a solid foundation for the sewage system. Bored piles provide the necessary even slope in the sewage pipes without causing subsidence.

Pecafil® as casing formwork for circular piles

Using round formwork made of the universal formwork material Pecafil®, the pile heads are precisely adjusted in height and cast. The sewage pipes are then laid on top of this on transverse sleepers. A fascinating construction project that is shaping the future of urban infrastructure!
