The new office and administration building of the Max Frank Group, headquartered in Leiblfing, has now been awarded the LEED Certificate in Gold in addition to the DGNB Certificate in Gold. The new building of construction industry supplier Max Frank is thus one of the few dual-certified buildings in Germany.
The DGNB Certificate is awarded for sustainable buildings. The certification process takes into account the quality of processes and technology in addition to ecological, economical and socio-cultural aspects. This certificate had already been presented to managing director Dr. Max Frank and Mr. Alexander Weny, who was representing the commissioned architect's office HIW Architects, at the Expo Real trade fair in Munich last October. The group's building was additionally evaluated in accordance with the American LEED system and has now also been awarded the certificate in gold here, too. This certification is an internationally recognised distinction for sustainable, ecological and efficient buildings: also known as 'green buildings'.
Sustainable building materials are extremely important.
Sustainable building materials have been a major concern of the Max Frank company since its foundation, as products such as spacers made of fibre-reinforced concrete or the Zemdrain® CPF liner demonstrate. As an international group with presence in 15 different countries, today Max Frank produces and supplies a diverse range of structural products to enhance the quality and durability of reinforced concrete construction. Working closely with architects, designers, building contractors and construction companies all over the world, the common goal of the Max Frank group is to construct sustainable buildings. The overall objective behind the company’s product innovations is to extend building lifecycles, reduce energy consumption, enhance thermal and sound insulation and, in particular, generate efficient processes using practical materials. With this in mind: considering the best possible ways to integrate upcoming technologies in a building today.
For the Max Frank group, however, it was about much more than a stamp of approval. Investors, building owners and occupiers value a sustainable construction method, especially where superior buildings are concerned. Sustainability and durability were particularly important to Max Frank, as a product manufacturer, throughout the design and construction phases of its new office and administration building. The project was thus planned from the outset under these directives and achieved using proprietary products, such as the Sorp 10® absorber for thermally activated structural elements. This product combines room acoustics and spacers in a single function. Positioned in a strip-like arrangement in the bare ceiling, the Max Frank Sorp 10® reduces the reverberation time, for example in offices, while the influence on the thermal efficiency of the activated ceiling is minimised at the same time.
The consulting for the sustainability certification, according to the LEED system, was conducted by Drees & Sommer in Munich. Bollinger + Grohmann Ingenieure in Frankfurt, under the technical leadership of Prof. Lamia Messari-Becker (at B+G until the beginning of 2014) who was responsible for the consulting for the certification according to the DGNB system as well as the execution and optimisation of the associated verifications (incl. LCA, LCC).
