The future of Bern railway station

Bern, Switzerland

As part of the Bern railway construction project, the underground station in the existing station is being extended to optimise both train services and the connection to the city.

Once the tunnelling had been completed, the base slab was concreted in several successive steps. Prefabricated Stremaform® sections were used to form the construction joints, which were anchored back due to their height. This meant that the reinforcement could be continued without interruption and a force-fit connection could be created through the roughness of the joint. When using Stremaform® as permanent formwork, no striking of the formwork is necessary, which means a smooth construction process.

A special detail on the construction site was the recess for a pump sump, which was only excavated later: An elliptical Stremaform® formwork simultaneously served as a finish for later excavation work and as a force-fit connection for the subsequent concreting of the walls of the pump sump.
