How to: Transfer dynamic loads from crane runways

For expansion joints in crane runways, the shear force dowel connection Egcodorn® DND is used for transferring dynamic loads.

Crane runways are used for moving large loads in container ports, which subjects the load-bearing structure to huge dynamic loads. There are correspondingly high demands on the fatigue resistance of the structure and the connecting devices.

For expansion joints in crane runways, the shear force dowel connection Egcodorn® DND is used for transferring dynamic loads. Instead of fixing the shear force dowels to the formwork on site, it is recommended to install the expansion joint elements prefabricated. This saves time and ensures accuracy of execution.

Instruction of use: Shear force dowel Egcodorn® for joints subjected to dynamic loads

How to:

  • Dimensioning the expansion joint distance and prefabrication of the expansion joint elements using formwork and reinforcement drawings.
  • When placing the formwork and reinforcing and positioning the prefabricated Stremaform® expansion joint element, take note of the concrete cover. This is done by positioning single spacers between the reinforcement and the expansion joint element.
  • Before casting the first built section, the alignment of the Egcodorn® DND shear force dowels should be checked. Unrestricted movement of the expansion joint is only assured when all the shear force dowels are arranged in the direction of movement.
  • Building the second section can begin after the stripping.
